Bikaner and Tal Chappar
Unveiling the beauty of Rajasthan always fascinates me. The desert area is land of diverse conservation reserves crowded with astonishing wildlife including uncommon and scarce species. Among the elegant deserted landscapes of the state, Bikaner and Tal Chappar are virtual paradise for nature enthusiasts. Jorbeer Conservation Reserve, situated in the south-east of Bikaner is a perfect habitat for herbivores and grassland birds. Besides being a significant grassland habitat, it is an ideal expanse for vultures and migratory birds.
Walking across the landscape, you would realise that the terrain is knitted with a blanket of verdure. It comprises grasses as well as desert plants winded with extremely few trees here and there.
Bikaner and Tal Chappar are dwelling to many herbivores and carnivores. Jorbeer Conservation Reserve is home to wildlife like Chinkara, Blue-bull, Wild boar, Desert fox, Jackal, Desert gerbil, Spiny-tailed lizard and Monitor lizard. Besides, a large community of migratory and resident vultures, attract the viewers the most. The area reserves seven species of vultures. These include Eurasian Griffon, Himalayan Griffon, Cinereous Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Long-billed Vulture, Red-headed Vulture and White-rumped vulture. All of them feed on the cadavers of cow, buffalo, goat, sheep and camel.
Also, the region is famous for its collection of a decent community of raptors like Steppe eagle, tawny eagle, laggard falcon, kestrel, long-legged buzzard, shikra, black kite, black-shouldered kite, Tawny eagle and imperial eagle.
Talking about the next reserve, Tal Chhapar Sanctuary conserves a wide variety of birds and is famous for being home to blackbucks. Other bird species found here are harriers, eastern imperial eagle, tawny eagle, short-toed eagle and little green bee-eaters, black-headed ibis and demoiselle cranes.
Contrary to Jorbeer Conservation Reserve, Tal Chappar is located in Northwestern part of Rajasthan. On my first trip to the sanctuary, I found Shekhawati (a historical region) which increased the excitement of the voyage many folds. Stopping by Bikaner and Tal Chappar for touring in the state of Rajasthan always delivers you a resort to see something astonishing all year round. No matter in which season you visit the place.
The Right Time to Visit!
You can visit Bikaner and Tal Chappar Sanctuary at time when the season replenishes the region with the creatures you'd like to behold.
The month of July comes with relieving shower wiping the atmosphere, procuring life to the thirsty soil, inviting a number of grasshoppers and locusts. This in turn gives rise to white-eyed Buzzards and Shikras. At this time, Singing Bushlark too, reveal their existence with huge excitement. August to April is the decent period for a bird fanatic to visit the territory as plenty of migratory birds stop over there. This is the opportunity for you to save a glimpse of the refinement of nature. Some bird species stay till March.
To update the collection of my wildlife photographs, once I toured there during hot days. I believe, the best season to catch a glance of mammals is summer but you should appoint this season only if you are tolerable enough to endure the heat of Sahara land. Moreover, patience pays. You'll be tickled pink for being at euphoric locality, spotting young pups and kittens playing.
Also, there are some species including skylarks, crested larks, ring doves, and yellow-eyed pigeon which can be spotted throughout the year.
On your way to Bikaner and Tal Chapper, you'll come across the corridor of many migratory birds including barriers. The area gets crammed with birds during September.
