Ranthambore National Park
Ranthambore National Park is one of those rare attractions where history meets wildlife. The sanctuary is not just a refuge for flora and fauna. But it is also the land where one of the UNESCO World heritage sites, the Ranthambore Fort resides. And hence, the sanctuary gets its name from this legendary fortress which sits at the apex of the hill, overlooking the entire park.
Every time I traverse across the Ranthambore National Park, the experience is new. Being one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries of Rajasthan, you need a minimum of three days to explore the place. The park is situated in Sawai Madhopur district of Southeastern Rajasthan, 130 km away from Jaipur.
On one side there is the iconic Aravalli hill range and on the other side lies the beautiful Vindhyas. Ranthambore National Park lies in between the two with a spectacular landscape and diverse ecosystem.
Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary is world famous for its Tigers. It has the reputation of being the place where anybody can encounter these big cats wandering the dry deciduous, dry thorn forest. The sight of Tigers roaming around the verdant greenery while other birds and animals signal it's presence is an inexpressible experience. If you are a wildlife fanatic, exploration of Ranthambore is a must at least once in lifetime.
Talking about the gems of Ranthambore National Park, I can't count them on the fingers. Apart from Tiger, the sightings of Leopard, Jackal, Bear, Sloth Bear and other prey species is common. On my each trip I also come across plenty of plant-eaters. There is Wild Boar, Deer, Antelope, Monkeys among many other species.
Birdlife at Ranthambore National Park is one of the richest in the state. More than 300 bird species inhabit the sanctuary making it a hotspot for birdwatchers. While some birds belong here, others migrate to Ranthambore during different seasons.
In winter, thousands of birds migrate from Europe and Siberia making Ranthambore National Park an ornithologist’s paradise.
